From late Spring to late Autumn, the house is a perfect retreat, offering a rustic and authentic experience. The room I stayed in was immaculately clean, and the continental breakfasts were delightful. The owner was exceptionally kind and accommodating, making my stay even more enjoyable. Despite some minor drawbacks, such as slow WiFi and the need for exterior maintenance, these did not detract from the overall charm and serenity of the place. I highly recommend this hidden gem for a peaceful and memorable getaway. I would happily recommend staying at this historical house for its unique experience and tranquil surroundings.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at an exceptional house dating back 300 years, surviving the looting and burning of Napoleon's troops. It was the home of one of Portugal's leading poets, and visiting his rooms, filled with original papers, books, paintings. The stunning house and gardens, along with the helpfulness of the host and her son, made it a delightful place to stay. Despite being a little trek from the town center, it's definitely worth it.
